ODU Art Faculty Works on Display in ‘Kindred Spirits’ Exhibition

A selection of artwork created by Old Dominion University faculty members is on display through Nov. 17 in a collaborative exhibition with the Chrysler Museum of Art Road Show.

The "Kindred Spirits" show includes pieces by full-time ODU art department faculty members Ivanete Blanco, Ramon Bowfill, Heather Bryant, Ken Daley, Dianne Debeixedon, Patricia Edwards, Peter Eudenbach, Richard Nickel, Greta Pratt and John Roth. For the exhibit, each artist selected a work from the Chrysler Museum of Art to pair with their own.

"The wide ranging selections provide new insight into faculty research and their participation in the contemporary dialogue which is art," according to an exhibit description.

"Kindred Spirits" can be viewed in the Baron and Ellin Gordon Self-taught Gallery. The Gordon Art Galleries are located at 4509 Monarch Way in the University Village. Parking is available at the 45th Street Garage. The galleries are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Also currently on display in the Baron and Ellin Gordon Self-taught Gallery is "The Big Story: The Art of Levent Isik, Ronald Sloan and Derek Webster." This exhibit will be up through Feb. 9, 2014.

"Levent Isik, Ronald Sloan and the late Derek Webster are artists of different ethnic origins, ages and communities; however, they each create art that encourages the viewer to imagine narratives that are expansive, dynamic and visually compelling. Isik, Sloan and Webster invite the viewer into specific worlds of fully realized visions, styles and imagery unmistakably their own," an exhibit narrative states.
