Six ODU Faculty Selected as 2017 Entsminger Fellows

Members of the past three classes of Entsminger Fellows met last summer in the Strome Entrepreneurial Center
Old Dominion's fourth class of Entsminger Fellows, recruited from the faculty to promote the University's entrepreneurial mission in its academic colleges, has been announced by Provost Augustine "Austin" Agho.
Six faculty members will join the three previous classes of Entsminger Fellows in a shared effort to develop an entrepreneurial culture in University curricula, research and student-focused initiatives.
"This year marks Year 4 of the Entsminger Fellows program, with the vision to foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem across the University," Agho said. "A total of 24 ODU faculty and staff have been named as Entsminger Fellows."
The 2017 Entsminger Fellows are:
- Tim Anderson, associate professor in the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts;
- Michel Audette, assistant professor in the Department of Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Engineering;
- Raymond Cheng, associate professor of practice in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics;
- Andrew Cohen, instructor in the Department of Finance and manager of the Gregory A. Lumsden Trading Room & Research Lab of the Strome College of Business;
- Jay Scribner; professor and chair of the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership; and
- Brian Payne, vice provost of academic affairs of the Office of Academic Affairs.
The 2017 Entsminger Fellows will attend the Babson College Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators in Massachusetts on May 29 to June 2 and will return to Old Dominion with strategies they can take into the classroom.
The program has been a success since it was announced at Old Dominion University four years ago.
"The Entsminger Fellows deserve credit, individually and as a group, for advancing entrepreneurship and innovation here at ODU," said Nancy Grden, executive director of ODU's Strome Entrepreneurial Center. "They are an invaluable resource for our community, are planning other future initiatives, and demonstrate a truly interdisciplinary approach to their leadership."
Agho thanked alumnus Lee Entsminger, who provided a gift to the University to support it. The local businessman and philanthropist, a 1974 geology graduate, made his donation in conjunction with the launch of Old Dominion's entrepreneurial initiative in 2014.
That initiative was spurred by an $11 million gift to the University by alumnus Mark Strome '78. Strome sought to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem at Old Dominion through the gift, spanning admitted freshmen to the University faculty.
