The Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry Library is the main library at Old Dominion University. Its current location on 43rd Street [because it used to be the Hughes Library in a different location] was opened in 1976, with a major addition and renovation completed in February 1998. In 1999, the building was dedicated in honor of Patricia and Douglas Perry, generous benefactors of the university.
A Learning Commons opened on the 1st floor in 2011, with access to campus resources, services and expertise in a single location. The Learning Commons @ Perry Library is a dynamic, collaborative environment facilitating student learning through exploration, collaboration, and discussion.
Perry Library provides extensive collections of print, media, and electronic materials to support the research needs of students, faculty, and staff both on campus and at a distance. The Special Collections & University Archives Department in Perry Library includes the University Archives, manuscripts, and books and printed material relating to Virginia and Tidewater History. The library also includes study spaces, computer labs, and additional services.
