As we make continued progress in Old Dominion University's proposed integration with Eastern Virginia Medical School, regular updates will be shared with the campus community. Each month, you will receive an integration update with various highlights on recent developments through news items, a Q&A, and other resources.

Establishing an academic health sciences center in Hampton Roads will offer tremendous benefits to ODU, EVMS, the region, and the Commonwealth. Together, we can enhance health care, strengthen educational programs, bolster the workforce pipeline, and address health and economic disparities facing fellow citizens.

As previously shared, integrating is not a foregone conclusion, but we continue to make significant advancements on this historic journey!

Founding Dean Named for ONE School of Public Health

Li-Wu Chen, Ph.D., will serve as the founding dean of the proposed ONE School of Public Health, a collaboration among ODU, EVMS, and Norfolk State University. Dr. Chen was selected following a national search and will assume duties effective March 10, 2023. Learn more here.

Question of the Month: What will the proposed integration mean for our health sciences programs?

With this integration, a comprehensive health sciences center will be created, bringing together the EVMS School of Health Professions, the EVMS Medical School, the ONE School of Public Health, the ODU College of Health Sciences, and the ODU School of Nursing. This will provide greater levels of collaboration and interdisciplinary engagement across these areas, thereby strengthening academic, clinical, and research experiences.
