The deadline for submissions for the contest to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, which is sponsored by the Center for Educational Partnerships at Old Dominion University, the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, the ODU Libraries and the Slover Library, has been extended until July 31.
"Voyages and Discoveries: Cross-Generational Reflections on the Significance of Space Exploration" seeks submissions from two-person adult-teen or adult-child teams recalling the July 20, 1969, landing and providing thoughts on the future of space exploration. Teams may submit a written story, poem or dialogue with an illustration to accompany the text. Age categories are 4-7, 8-11, 12-15 and 16-19.
Workshops to provide help for the submissions will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Slover Library on May 24 and 31; June 7, 14, 21 and 28; and July 5, 19 and 26.
Finalists will be announced Aug. 17, and the winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Slover Library on Aug. 24.
