A new climate-change solutions minor will be offered in the Batten College of Engineering and Technology beginning in fall 2023. "Engineering Solutions for Climate Adaptation and Resilience" is 12-credit minor open to all engineering majors. Coursework can be completed either in-person or via distance learning.
"As the effects of climate change become more severe and frequent, engineers will play a crucial role in developing new technologies and methods to adapt to these changes and make communities more resilient," said Dalya Ismael, assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Technology. "This minor will prepare engineering students to address the challenges of climate change and help them to become leaders in their field."
Courses, taught by faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Engineering Technology, will provide students with an understanding of the science, impacts, and management strategies of climate change.
The minor has two required courses: CET 458 Managing the Climate Crisis and CEE 457 Adaptation to Sea Level Rise. Students will choose from two of the following courses to complete the minor: Water Resource Engineering, Hydrology and Drainage, Resiliency and Sustainability, Managing the Climate Crisis Pollution Prevention and Green Engineering, Urban Stormwater Hydrology Groundwater Hydraulics, Sustainable Development, Introduction to Coastal Engineering and Adaptation to Sea Level Rise.
