The COVID-19 pandemic has brought increased attention to the medical supply chains needed to deliver personal protective equipment (PPE) and vaccines around the world.
A discussion of the impact of the pandemic on COVID-19 related medical supply chains, the national stockpile and difficulties experienced by hospitals in securing PPE will be examined as part of the fourth Science Pub of the academic year. "Creating Resilience in Medical Supply Chains" is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 24. It will be conducted using the Zoom platform. Folks are asked to RSVP by Feb. 23, and they will be emailed Zoom link.
The featured researcher will be Ricardo Ungo, clinical assistant professor of maritime and supply chain management in the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences. Ungo will discuss lessons learned from the disruption of long, complex medical supply chains and their structural causes.
"In current and post-pandemic reality, visibility and resilience should become crucial determinants of the overall health of critical medical supply chains," he said.
Ungo will also explore ideas about the mechanisms that should be in place and how our region can capitalize on our logistics and industrial cluster to create resilient maritime supply chains in Virginia.
Audience members will once again have to get creative for this Science Pub and supply their own beverages.
