The Office of Community Engagement develop events and build partnerships that connect the University to the world through expertise and service. Our programs and partnerships bring people together and strengthen the ties between ODU and the communities we serve. In recognition of our work to share knowledge and resources beyond the campus, The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has recognized ODU with its selective Community Engagement Classification. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, describes community engagement as "the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity."
Mission
Develop events and outreach opportunities to fulfill the university's community outreach mission by promoting service, partnerships, and expertise that connect the University to our communities for community betterment and mutual success.
Vision
Create a culture and spirit of community and civic-mindedness by building on and promoting existing efforts through strategic outreach to community organizations and integration of academic excellence to enhance ODU's role in the Hampton Roads community, the Commonwealth and beyond.
