Dr. Xie received his Ph.D. degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering from New York University. Prior to joining ODU, he worked as an Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at University of Canterbury and as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) at New York University. Dr. Xie’s research concentrates on the development of data-driven and technical solutions to enhance the safety, efficiency, and resiliency of transportation systems. His discovery work has led to over 100 refereed papers in scholarly journals and conference proceedings and multi-million research grants from federal and state agencies including National Science Foundation (NSF), National Academy of Sciences (NAS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). He is recognized by prestigious awards including IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Best Dissertation Award, Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) Milton Pikarsky Memorial Award, and Transportation Research Board (TRB) Best Paper Award. He serves as Associate Editor for Transportation Research Record and the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference.
