Michelle Carpenter serves as a Senior Lecturer of Marketing in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She teaches students the value of marketing, social media, and public relations, and actively looks for opportunities to mentor students through special projects and experiential learning. In April 2022, Michelle was selected as University Distinguished Teacher and in June 2022, the EV Williams Fellowship for Teaching and Service. Michelle was also awarded a Transitional Entrepreneurship grant proposal for the NIL Hub with Brendan O’Hallarn in Communications. In addition, Michelle was awarded the Faculty Teaching Award for non-tenure track professors by the Strome College of Business two separate times, and in 2020 was recognized as Educator of the Year for her teaching innovations by the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads. Michelle serves as the Chapter Advisor of American Marketing Association (AMA) club at ODU, affectionally known as the AMA Strome Marketers, and is the Chief Department Advisor. She serves as an active contributor of the Writing Team that is part of President Hemphill’s Strategic Planning Group. Michelle actively collaborates with companies in her classes and pursues research related to education, experiential learning and social media marketing. Her dedication to students in the classroom is supported by more than 15 years in the industry instructing businesses and organizations across the Commonwealth on the importance of Internet marketing, leading a statewide e-commerce conference, and serving as the public relations lead for a local university. She holds an M.A. in Communications from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and an MBA with a specialization in Marketing from ODU.
