Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education and Professional Studies recently relaunched the Nu Eta chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. The chapter will support the university's commitment to diverse educators and those working to become future educators.
Ten members were initiated on Wednesday, Oct. 23 during an evening reception. Another initiation will occur in the spring of 2020 for students who are interested in joining the honor society.
"Our vision is to support our student members as they work to continually improve the field of education through scholarship, leadership and service opportunities both locally and nationally," said Dr. Angela Eckhoff, associate professor of teaching and learning and chapter adviser.
To be eligible for membership, students must be enrolled in an undergraduate program, have at least six credit hours of education courses and a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
"After researching and learning more about the mission of the Nu Eta chapter of Kapp Delta Pi at ODU I was excited to join the organization," said Brittany Damron, an undergraduate student majoring in secondary education with a license to teach English. "I am excited for the opportunities this organization will bring me in the upcoming semester and for life as an educator."
Dr. Jori Beck, assistant professor of teaching and learning said the chapter is currently working to deepen its relationship with local schools by honoring teachers and administrators as honorary chapter members.
