Director of Teacher in Residence

Dr. Burrell-Craft is the new Director of the Teacher in Residence program and she began her work at Old Dominion on July 10, 2019. Dr. Burrell-Craft comes to ODU from Apex Collegiate Academy, where she served as Director of Student Support and, more recently, as Principal. Prior to that work, Dr. Burrell-Craft worked at Louisiana State University, where she served as Project Coordinator for a $6 million dollar federal grant focused on training teachers and school staff on inclusive practices. She also has worked in schools as an Assistant Administrator, Special Education Chair, English and special education teacher, AVID Coordinator, and Instructional Coach. Dr. Burrell-Craft's academic preparation at the master's and doctoral levels focused on educational leadership, with an emphasis on urban education. She brings to her new role a wealth of professional experience at both the PreK-12 and higher education levels, with particular expertise in culturally responsive teaching, cultural proficiency, and inclusive special education practices.
