We have sufficiently tested all critical software with Windows 11 and feel confident fully supporting the latest operating system on all ODU-managed PCs. We are working on a plan for upgrading campus computers to Windows 11 beginning this summer. Stay tuned!
Frequently asked questions
For the best experience, we recommend that all of your devices are set up the same way. If you don't update them at the same time, both devices will continue to work just fine, but you may notice some features or programs behave differently. And of course logging in will be different.
Not all ODU computers can support the latest version of Windows. Your TSP will work with you and your department if your device does not support the latest version.
Microsoft only supports each version of Windows for a finite amount of time. ODU's computers must be running a supported version of Windows so that Microsoft and our other software vendors will be able to work with us to resolve problems you experience with your device.
If you are receiving a replacement computer, your new computer will come with the new Windows operating system already installed.
If you are having your existing computer upgraded, the entire process will take two to three hours. Your TSP can schedule this for you during a convenient time.
Application/Service Support
ITS works hard to ensure that Old Dominion University has a secure and reliable IT infrastructure. We must thoroughly test new operating systems and our own technology before we can guarantee compatibility. We will update this page as more licensed software and University hardware are updated to fully support Windows 11.
