The University Libraries are hosting a one-hour workshop via Zoom on Wednesday, November 10th from 10-11am. Registration is required: https://bit.ly/opentextbookintro. A Zoom link will be sent to registrants.
Teaching faculty who participate in the workshop can submit a brief review of an open textbook in their discipline within six weeks to receive a $200 stipend funded by VIVA, the Virtual Library of Virginia https://vivalib.org.
Open textbooks may be selected from the Open Textbook Library https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks. The Open Textbook Library contains 950+ open textbooks which are openly licensed and freely available online.
This workshop includes:
- Discussion of course material perceptions and preferences
- Course material cost impacts on students
- What we mean (and don't mean) by "open textbook"
- Creative Commons licenses
- Other faculty reviews
The workshop is co-hosted by Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech. It will be co-presented by Karen Vaughan, Head of Scholarly Communication and Publishing, ODU Libraries, and Anita Walz, Assistant Director of Open Education, VT University Libraries. Further information on the Libraries' support for open educational resources (OER) is available at https://guides.lib.odu.edu/oer
While this workshop is designed for faculty who teach, it is open to anyone within the university community. Contact Karen Vaughan, kvaughan@odu.edu, with questions or for more information.
