When android sex-workers start snuffing out their clients, cyborg cop Batou and his (mostly) human partner Togusa set out to find the reason. Their investigation takes them from the criminal underground to the highest levels of society, leading the pair towards a shocking discovery-and an old friend.
Director Mamoru Oshii's ambitious sequel, GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE, was the first and only anime feature to ever compete for the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival. A dreamy mix of Japanese precision and European sensibility (Oshii cites Jean-Luc Godard, and German doll-makers as inspiration), the sequel fleshes out the world of the original cyberpunk classic, exploring themes of identity, trans-humanity, and artificial intelligence.
