meta}L{morphosis captures the fleeting nature of personal belongings while harnessing metal’s transformative potential to explore concepts of permanence and consumption. Crafted from donated materials and activated by the creativity of Radical Jewelry Makeover participants, these works are reborn with new purpose. Once neglected or forgotten, these jewelry objects have been reimagined to find relevance in the present.
Radical Jewelry Makeover (RJM) is an international community jewelry mining and recycling project focused on education and collaboration. In this special edition, students from ODU alongside professionals from the surrounding region collected and meticulously sorted 99 pounds of jewelry generously donated by the community.
Together, the fourteen artists from Hampton Roads have transformed a portion of those donations into the jewelry works on view. We hope that you will visit the exhibition and enjoy our survey of radical transformation.
