New Police Officers Sworn In; New Chief to Arrive Feb. 13

The Old Dominion University Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony for three new police officers Feb. 3. Officers Joseph Falatic, John Powell and Patrick Haylock graduated from the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy in January and have begun a six-week field-training phase under the direction of senior ODU police officers.

ODU Interim Police Chief George Votava conducted the swearing-in ceremony, while other officers and ODU's chief operating officer, David Harnage, looked on.

The new officers were hired as part of an ongoing initiative that aims to strengthen the overall safety and security of the university community. A new police chief, Rhonda Harris, has also been hired and will begin duties on Feb. 13.
