Delicia Malin, Program Support Technician in Physics, is May Employee of the Month

Delicia Malin, a program support technician in the Department of Physics, is Old Dominion University's Employee of the Month for May.

Malin has worked for the University since 1998.

She has been observed by her supervisor and her peers as having an extraordinary attitude and work ethic. Malin diligently demonstrates ODU service standards by providing care, concern and civility to her constituents. Malin is known for always being enthusiastic, willing to serve and aware of concerns others may have.

Malin's accomplishments include "flawless" execution of responsibilities as ODU's Pretlow Planetarium budget manager; "extraordinary" performance of office management duties, including administrative support to the faculty and students; handling all purchasing and record management; providing outstanding support and going above and beyond on all requests; and working closely with students, faculty and staff to ensure efficient and timely support whenever needed.

"Delicia always provides service with a smile," said Lisa Okun, Malin's supervisor. "No matter how busy she is, she stops what she is doing to give you her undivided attention and assist you with your request. She is an invaluable and essential member of this department."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award. Nominations remain active for six months from date of submission and nominators may submit additional documentation to support a nominee during the active six months.

The criteria used to nominate an employee include the following:

An outstanding accomplishment that benefited the department/students.

Extraordinary service to internal and/or external customers.

Inspiring initiative/leadership.

Enthusiasm/energy given to assigned work.

Teamwork.

Exemplary efforts to nurture a climate of care, concern and civility.

Creative innovations to service, process or work tools.
