Campus Movie Fest Student Films to be Screened Nov. 16 at the Webb Center

By Joe Garvey

Campus Movie Fest is coming to Old Dominion University.

The best 16 five-minute films created by students will be shown at a red-carpet premiere on Nov. 16 at the Webb University Center starting a 3 p.m. in the North Cafeteria.

Students had from Nov. 6 to 12 to complete their films, with the Campus Movie Fest staff providing training, support and equipment. Judges then rated the submissions, with the top 16 making the cut for the premiere.

The top four films will win Jury Awards, which means they will move on to compete on the national level at the Grand Finale in June. Jury Award winners will also receive a one-year subscription to both Adobe Creative Cloud and Prime Student, the chance to apply for the CMF at Cannes Program and the possibility of seeing their film on Prime Video. Silver Tripod Awards will be given in specific categories, including directing, editing and performance.

Students can also compete in the Elfenworks Hope in Social Justice category, which highlights injustice and aims to inspire change - with the national winner taking home $10,000.

In May, four films made by ODU students were screened at the Cannes Film Festival. They were "The Friend Zone" by Tyler Jones, Jake Brinn and Chelsey Kokoski; "Phoenix from Ashes" by Kristal Villarino; "Dreamer" by Caileigh Gold, and "Midnight Daydream" by Justin Herrera.

Campus Movie Fest, a short-film competition that holds movie festivals on college campuses nationwide, began in 2001.To learn more about the organization, or to watch past movies, visit http://www.campusmoviefest.com.
