Taia Reid, Assistant Director for the Peer Educator Program, is the Employee of the Month for March

Taia Reid, assistant director for the Peer Educator Program in the Center for High Impact Practices, is the University's Employee of the Month for March.

Reid has been employed by the University since 2013.

One of Reid's outstanding accomplishments relates to her work in earning an international tutor training program recognition through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Reid is responsible for submitting the applications to CRLA to certify and re-certify the tutor training program recognition. She also oversees peer tutoring and academic coaching while supervising about 25 undergraduate and graduate students.

According to Reid's supervisor, Jennifer Grimm, "Taia is a hard-working, dedicated employee who truly loves to help ODU students succeed inside and outside of the classroom. She continues to be innovative and creative in her work. It was definitely Taia's turn to be recognized for all she does for the ODU community and our students."

Grimm added that Reid has worked collaboratively with Athletics to submit ODU's first joint-certification application to CRLA so that both the Peer Educator Program and Athletics will share in the ownership and oversight of the certified training programs.

"The partnership with Athletics has become so strong that Taia and the tutor coordinator for Athletics are submitting a joint concurrent session proposal to present at a major NCAA conference this year," Grimm said. "Therefore, not only is this an outstanding accomplishment, but it also demonstrates her ability to engage in teamwork."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award. Nominations remain active for six months from date of submission and nominators may submit additional documentation to support a nominee during the active six months.

The criteria used to nominate an employee include the following:

  • An outstanding accomplishment that benefited the department/students
  • Extraordinary service to internal and/or external customers
  • Inspiring initiative/leadership
  • Enthusiasm/energy given to assigned work
  • Teamwork
  • Exemplary efforts to nurture a climate of care, concern and civility and;
  • Creative innovations to service, process or work tools.
