Larry Weinstein Releases 'Nuclear Physics Explained' Video Course

Larry Weinstein, Eminent Scholar and University Professor of Physics at Old Dominion University, was recently selected to teach one of The Great Courses.

Weinstein joins the top 1% percent of professors around the world who were chosen to teach one of The Great Courses. The Great Courses is a series of college-level audio and video courses produced and distributed by The Teaching Company, based in Chantilly, Virginia.

"Nuclear physics is very important in our daily life," Weinstein said. "I want to show people all the amazing things we can do with nuclei and the amazing cutting-edge research we are doing at Jefferson Lab."

His 24-lecture video course, "Nuclear Physics Explained," was recently released by the company. The course covers a range of topics including radiation, the structure of the nucleus, nuclear energy, nuclear bombs, nuclear medicine and applications to art fraud, archaeology and artificial vanilla. Weinstein conducts research at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) in Newport News. He has been named a fellow of the American Physical Society and received the Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award.

Weinstein received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining ODU in 1992. He's written more than 100 scientific articles and two books including "Guesstimation 2.0: Solving Today's Problems on the Back of a Napkin," published in 2012.
