Counseling Professor Receives Fellows Award

Edward Neukrug, a professor of counseling and human services at Old Dominion University, recently received the American Counseling Association's Fellows Award.

The award, the most prestigious given by the association, goes to "members who have contributed to the counseling profession throughout their career and have made significant contributions through professional practice, scientific achievement and governance, or teaching and training."

Neukrug is finishing his 12th book. He has written nearly 100 articles and chapters in books and was the chief architect of the first ethics code for the National Organization of Human Services and a long-term editor of the Journal of Human Services. Neukrug has been president of state and regional associations and has been a champion of diversity at the University and across the country.

He has taught at ODU for 30 years and served as chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling for seven years (now Counseling and Human Services). Neukrug has also been a Faculty Diversity Leader for the Darden College of Education and Professional Services for seven years.

Old Dominion's counseling program has been named the best master's program and best doctoral program in the country by the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. It also was listed as one of the top counseling programs in the country by U.S News & World Report.
