ODU Ranked Among Nation’s 25 Most Affordable Online Programs

By Joe Garvey

Old Dominion University has among the nation's 25 Most Affordable Online Programs, according to a 2019 ranking from CollegeConsensus.com.

ODU is No. 22 on the list, which includes the University of Alabama, the University of Arkansas and Eastern Kentucky University.

In all, 11,692 students are enrolled in ODU's more than 100 online programs.

"Online education is a strong part of Old Dominion University's DNA," said Andy Casiello, associate vice president for distance learning. "We are proud of our history of providing the highest level of academics while maintaining the most affordable tuition among the doctoral research institutions in Virginia. We help the citizens of the Commonwealth achieve exceptional outcomes by using innovative and creative tools and techniques that are unique to our industry."

CollegeConsensus said it considered a number of factors but relied most heavily on Peterson's cost-per-credit data.

"The way Old Dominion University differs from other programs is the flexibility of the programs," CollegeConsensus noted in its citation. "You have several fully online programs that allow you to start at general studies and work through the entire degree without stepping onto the campus. You also have options that are partially online and give you more options when you want a few on-campus classes for the experience. Old Dominion University allows students to seamlessly transfer credits from community colleges or other universities to help cut the costs of their degree and education."

This just the latest recognition for ODU's online programs. Here's a list of some other honors:
