Dr. James W. Kosnik is a University Professor of Music. He joined the faculty at Old Dominion in 1982 and served as chairman of the music department for two terms from 1986 to 1992. Prior to his appointment at Old Dominion, Kosnik served as chairman of the music department at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, New York and as Director of Music at St. Joseph's Cathedral, also in Buffalo.

Kosnik received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied organ with Professor Russell Saunders. He is a recipient of the prestigious Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School.

In 1988, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians appointed Kosnik to NPM's staff as program coordinator and clinician. He established NPM's first "School for Organists" in 1989 at Baldwin-Wallace College. Since then workshops have been held at Catholic University, Alverno College, Loyola University, Duquesne University, St. Olaf College, University of the Pacific, SUNY at Fredonia and most recently, Valparaiso University.

Kosnik is featured frequently as a recitalist at regional and national NPM conventions and in 1997, at the Region III Convention of the American Guild of Organists, which was held in Washington, DC. As a former member of the Liturgical Organists Consortium, Kosnik is a performer on their recordings of some of the most noteworthy of organ music.

Kosnik has recorded two additional organ CDs. "Ancient Song, Sacred Sound" was recorded on the 1994 Lively-Fulcher organ at St. Patrick's Church in Washington, DC. The recording also includes selections of chant performed by "Capella Nova", under the direction of Dr. Leo Nestor, Director of Music at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. Kosnik's most recent recording, "The Organ Music of Cesar Franck" was also recorded at St. Patrick's and was produced by World Library Publications.
