The Old Dominion University Libraries will host a Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) hybrid event at 1:30 p.m. May 19.
Vikas Ashok, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, will lead a presentation on "Non-Visual Web Browsing: Beyond Web Accessibility" at Perry Library Room 1306. You can click here to register and to join the event virtually.
Ashok leads ODU's Accessible Computing Lab. The group's research focuses on accessible computing, an interdisciplinary field that crosscuts human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence. Members of the lab aim to make computing devices more accessible to people with visual disabilities while providing similar technological advancements to sighted persons.
Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which was first held in 2012, occurs on the third Thursday of May annually. According to the organization's website, the day is designed "to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than one billion people with disabilities/impairments."
ODU's event aligns with GAAD's annual call for awareness of accessibility issues at universities and supports diversity, equitability, inclusion and accessibility initiatives.
