Discover Your Pride: Monarch Orientation is a one-day on-campus orientation experience for new students. Parents, family members, and supporters are welcome to join. (Mid-June through July)
Registration information will be sent to students who have completed all Make Me A Monarch tasks.
During Discover Your Pride, students will build connections with your community, assemble and interact with your distinctive success team, and prepare for pathways to enrollment and engagement.
Check your ODU email for registration information. The cost for family participation is $50 per person and is due at the time of registration.
Below are a selection of important tasks and opportunities to complete during June and July:
- Submit Final High School Transcript
- Review Student Financial Account
- Get a Monarch ID
- Participate in First-Year Summer Institute

You can reschedule your Discover Your Pride date via the Reservation System, linked on your New Student Checklist in the myODU Portal.

The fee for Discover Your Pride goes toward breakfast, lunch, programming, giveaways, and staffing. The student fee is $75 and is added onto your Fall 2024 tuition. The guest fee is $50. Guests can be added to a student’s reservation through the Discover Your Pride Reservation System.
Please email orientation@odu.edu to request a fee waiver. You must submit your request within 48 hours of your Discover Your Pride session to be considered for a fee waiver.

Parents and supporters can review their student’s schedule upon return from registration. Students can make adjustments to their schedule through the Drop/Add period, ending September 3, 2024. Discover Your Pride is for confirmed Monarchs, so everyone you meet is planning to attend ODU! While Admitted Students Day provides an overview of ODU, Discover Your Pride is meant to help you build a success team to utilize during your time as a Monarch, as well as help prepare you for life on campus, including picking up your Monarch ID and registering for courses.
Accommodations can be added to a student’s Discover Your Pride reservation. We will send out additional information for accommodations during the week leading up to your Discover Your Pride session.
If you have emailed your photo to cardcenter@odu.edu, then you can pick up your ID during check-in at Discover Your Pride. If not, don’t worry! Review the Card Center website for additional instructions.
We request that you stay for the entirety of Discover Your Pride. Our sessions were crafted with student success in mind, and the information they provide will help prepare you for life at ODU. Additionally, in order to have your hold lifted to register for courses, you must check-in during the morning and during your group with your Monarch Orientation Leader.
We recommend that you bring a jacket or sweatshirt (it’s cold in Chartway Arena!), an umbrella, comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, a bag, and a hat or sunglasses. Additionally, make sure that you have your MIDAS ID, password, and UIN written down for course registration!
