University Advancement

University Advancement at Old Dominion University serves as the outreach arm of the institution and works closely with alumni, government officials, community leaders, donors and the media. The Office oversees a wide range of responsibilities including alumni relations, development, donor relations, and foundations.

Private donations are essential to maintaining the quality education and cutting-edge research that are the cornerstones of Old Dominion University. These funds help open the doors to new opportunities for ODU students and provides them with the tools they need to not only be successful but excel at whatever they undertake.

Monetary contributions are essential, but there are several other ways anyone can support ODU’s future. Donations of time, resources, know-how, mentorship, internships, and introductions for our students and graduates are all ways you can support ODU. Along with even the smallest of donations, these efforts continue building positive momentum for our future.

Office of Alumni Relations

The Old Dominion University Alumni Association was established in 1957 as an independent and all volunteer organization. In 1961, it became part of the university and gained paid personnel and a president. Through the Office of Alumni Relations, the Alumni Association focused on keeping graduates connected to the University through reunions, alumni weekends, and contributing to the University by way of regular fundraisers.

A successful university does not stand alone, and Old Dominion University is no exception. The University's foundations were created to provide additional support to key areas of the University, ranging from educational programs to athletics to capital projects and development. The foundations ensure that donor-provided funds and resources are appropriately routed and strategically used to enhance the mission of the University.

Old Dominion Athletic Foundation

The Old Dominion Athletic Foundation (ODAF) is integral to the success of ODU Athletics and is the channel through which our fans and alumni can partner with our coaches and student-athletes for the advancement of the athletics program. The mission of the ODAF is to raise financial support for University Athletics and to ensure that our coaches and student-athletes have the resources necessary to compete for championships.

Real Estate Foundation

Established in 1995, the Old Dominion University Real Estate Foundation has been developing much of the area in Monarch Way, a 75-acre mixed use development that includes retail, student apartments, and office buildings. In addition, the Foundation acquires, builds, and manages real estate on behalf of the University. The results of its work are visible to all in the form of the University Apartments, restaurants, shops, the Innovation Research Park, The President's House, Marriott SpringHill Suites Hotel, the University Bookstore, Baron & Ellin Gordon Art Galleries, and the Barry Art Museum.

Museum Foundation

Founded in 2016 by art collectors and philanthropists Carolyn and Richard Barry, the Barry Art Museum is a cultural and educational destination. As collectors, the Barrys followed their hearts. Their passion resulted in a unique permanent collection, providing us an opportunity to portray rich, cultural stories through our considerable holdings in glass, painting, and historical dolls and automata. The Barry Art Museum is operated by the Old Dominion University Museum Foundation, in partnership with Old Dominion University. The Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Directors.
