Microsoft has announced that as of October 2025, Windows 10 will no longer receive security patches, leaving older systems vulnerable to attack. Over the course of the next year, we will be updating University-managed computers in order to keep our networks secure.
Windows 10 version 21H2 is already out of support, so the first step we’re taking is to block all computers with this older version of Windows 10 from joining the ODU VPN. If you connect to the ODU VPN from a computer running Windows 10, please be sure you have version 22H2, which is supported until October 2025.
To verify that your device is running at least Windows 10 version 22H2, click the Start Menu icon and search “about your PC” or open the Settings app and select System > About to see this information.
After October 2025, your computer will need be on Windows 11 (a free software update if your computer meets Microsoft’s hardware requirements).
For questions about upgrading/replacing your ODU device, please reach out to the IT Help Desk for assistance. For information about upgrading your personal device, please see Microsoft’s guide and minimum requirements.
Stay tuned for more information about the end of support for Windows 10 and campus-wide upgrades to Windows 11.
