ODU Delayed Opening Due to Winter Weather

Important Operations Information for Jan. 7, 2025

Due to winter weather, Old Dominion University will follow a delayed opening for all locations on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at noon. Normal University operations will resume at that time.

This delay includes ODU’s main campus, its Eastern Virginia Medical School campus and its higher education center locations in Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and Hampton. In addition, the University’s Children’s Learning & Research Center will also open at noon.

Operations for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences EVMS Medical Group at ODU clinical operations (patient appointments) are delayed until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Operations Information for Students:

For students staying on campus, residence halls will remain open and staffed. Main campus dining services, including options in Webb Center, remain on a limited schedule. For more information, visit: https://olddominion.campusdish.com

Financial Aid will move all appointments online.

For medical residents assigned clinical placements and/or students assigned to non-ODU facilities, such as student teaching, please follow the policies/procedures of their hosting facilities.

Students enrolled in Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University who are concerned about their ability to travel safely to class or clinical sites should either complete the electronic Personal Leave form (Medical Masters and MD students) or notify the appropriate contact in their program (all other Health Professions students). Students in clinical rotations should also update their clinical teams. All virtual academic activities will continue as scheduled.

Further Updates and Additional Information:

While University officials make delay decisions based on the forecast and best available information about roadways, sidewalks and travel, employees and students are urged to exercise caution when considering traveling to an ODU campus location or the need to leave early during times of inclement weather.

Essential personnel should report for duty as normal, unless advised otherwise by their supervisor. Other personnel may need to report for duty as requested by their supervisor. Where operationally feasible, the University encourages faculty and supervisors to exercise flexibility and sensitivity to requests from students and employees experiencing challenges during inclement weather.

University officials will continue monitoring the storm in close collaboration with the National Weather Service and state and local agencies. They will share updates, as they develop, via the ODU Alerts System, this webpage, social media pages and local news outlets.
