About Big Blue Summer Day Camps

 boys and girls ages 6-12

The ODU Big Blue Summer Camp provides quality programs that develop youth ages six to 12, strengthen and support families, and create health and wellness for all.

We focus on helping campers develop friendship skills, independence, teamwork, family citizenship, competence, interest in exploration, responsibility, affinity for nature and confidence in problem solving.

Every week campers may participate in the following activities:

We take pride in providing highly motivated and enthusiastic staff who will mentor your child. Candidates must meet strict qualifications that meet and often exceed licensing guidelines. All staff must pass a criminal background check and a US Department of Justice national sex-offender background check.

Our staff participate in several trainings, including but not limited to: Child Abuse Recognition & Prevention training, Mandatory Reporter training, American Red Cross ® First Aid/CPR/AED training, EMAT training, and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen training. In addition, staff are trained on Bully Recognition & Prevention techniques, and Positive & Effective Discipline techniques.

As an American Camp Association ® accredited camp, we adhere to ACA's camper-to-counselor ratios to ensure that appropriate supervision is maintained throughout the duration of the program. The ODU Recreation & Wellness Assistant Director of Summer Camps is Jean Mcclellan-Holt.
