What will students get out of the course (i.e. benefits)?
Students will learn the skills needed to have a successful transition from high school into college. Learn all about what it means to be an ODU student, by learning about different resources that are available to them as students. Along with learning critical thinking skills that they can take with them for the rest of their time at ODU and beyond.
How would you describe your teaching/coaching style?
My teaching/coaching style is a student centered approach. I like to get to know students on an individual level inside of the coaching meetings, to best assist them as a student. While in the classroom having open discussions about relevant topics. Every student has a unique background and views and will bring
Tell us about your favorite ODU hidden gem.
My favorite ODU hidden gem are the sunsets that you can see on the Elizabeth River. You can see them from Whitehurst Beach, or my personal favorite of on a Saturday night in the fall, while watching a football game in S.B. Ballard Stadium
What are the TOP 3 things you want students to know when transitioning to ODU?
- Always ask questions! There is no such thing as a dumb question, college is a lot different than high school and you aren't going to know everything day 1.
- Check your ODU email every day! This is the main point of communication and its important to stay on top of them.
- Do something that makes you uncomfortable! It helps you grow as a student and a person
Is there are particular class topic you are looking forward to teaching most?
I am looking forward to teaching about major exploration. I enjoy talking with students about their future goals, and finding a major that will work best with what they want in life. Seeing the lightbulbs turn on and students get excited about their studies is a great feeling.
