Strome College of Business

A Message from the Dean

Welcome!

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University, I am pleased to welcome you to one of the most exciting times in the history of our College.

Why is now such an exciting time?

For many reasons, including:

  • Strong corporate investments in programming and facilities like the ADP Human Capital Management Academy and Lab
  • Groundbreaking research and programming resources like the Thurmond School for Professional Sales and Negotiations and the Hudgins Transitional Entrepreneurship Lab
  • Student engagement in new and revitalized organizations like the National Association of Black Accountants, Pi Sigma Epsilon, and the Women's Initiative Network.
  • Stronger student performance, thanks to innovative programs like STEPS Tutors and scholarships like the Perseverance Project.

Here, students find room to grow, whether it is hanging out in the largest Bloomberg financial research lab on the east coast, starting a business and selling the products in the student-run Monarch Way retail store, or working alongside faculty in research initiatives such as the annual Hampton Roads Workforce Study. Students also work with faculty and the community to solve community problems through the Community Challenge at Brooks Crossing. There are so many ways to get engaged and grow.

SCB graduate and undergraduate business programs are accredited by the hallmark of excellence in management education, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. This designation places the School among the top five percent of business programs in the world. Additionally, our Accounting Program has earned separate AACSB accreditation. The School of Public Service, which houses the Masters in Public Administration, is accredited by NASPAA. Moreover, SCB is a "Best for Vets Business School," earned Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards recognition for our Personal Financial Planning major; accredited HCM program through the Society for Human Resource Management; accredited in real estate appraisal by the Appraisal Institute, and earned global accreditation for our Graduate Certificate in Public Procurement and Contract Management. The immense and diverse expertise of SCB's faculty is one of our greatest resources, and their work impacts business, industry, and government regionally, nationally, and globally. Again, welcome to Strome and to the opportunities for growth, both personal and professional, that we have to offer. Whether you visit us as a future student, an alum, or just someone who seeks the latest in business thinking, I hope you'll contact me for an opportunity to join us in transforming lives by accelerating success.

Dr. Jeff Tanner, Dean
