Human Services Credentialing Overview

The B.S in Human Services Degree allows human service majors or minors* to seek state specific and international credentials in human service practice or addiction treatment and prevention. While the human service degree allows students to seek post-graduation credentialing, it is important to note that Old Dominion University only provides the educational requirements needed to seek specific credentials and does not provide or oversee the post-graduation residency as required for some credentials.

Students interested in seeking any of the following post-graduation credentials are encouraged to keep a copy of their course syllabus at the time of their course enrollment for verification purposes with the respective credentialing board. Follow the links below for more information:

* Those students who choose the Addiction Treatment and Prevention minor would only have the course requirements met for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) credentialing in Virginia. Please check with your specific state board to determine if this minor would be applicable to addiction credentialing in other states.
