ChunSheng Xin, Director
Dr. ChunSheng Xin is a Professor in the School of Cybersecurity and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. He received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, USA, in 2002. His research interests include cybersecurity, mobile computing, resilient computing, AI, IoT, and optical networks. Dr. Xin has secured over 46 external grants, with the total amount about $16 million, from NSF, NSA, ONR, AFRL, NIST, etc. His research findings have been published over 100 papers in leading journals and conferences, such as IEEE Infocom, PerCom, NDSS, AsiaCCS, IJCAI, AAAI, ICCV, ECCV, and IEEE ToN, JSAC,TMC, TWC, TVT, IoT, including three Best Paper Awards from IEEE PerCom, Globecom, and ICCCN. He has also published one technical book on wireless networks and contributed several book chapters in professional books, and received two patents on IoT security, and control algorithms for optical networks, respectively. Dr. Xin received the IEEE Big Data Security Leadership Award in 2024, for providing exemplary leadership in Big Data Security and Privacy Education and Research. He has served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of an international journal and Associate Editors of several journals including IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. He has served as Symposium/Track Chairs of multiple international conferences including IEEE Globecom, ICCCN, and also served in the technical program and organization committees of several technical conferences/workshops, including IEEE Infocom. He has been an external consultant on cybersecurity for industry and academia. At NSF, Dr. Xin has led the writing of a Congressional Report for the NSF program he is involved with, and led an initiative to organize an NSF workshop.
Dimitrie Popescu, Co-Director
Dimitrie C. Popescu received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 2002. Between 2002 and 2006 he was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Texas at San Antonio. Since 2006 he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His current research is in the area of wireless communications and cognitive radio systems, and includes spectrum management and dynamic spectrum access, transmitter/receiver optimization to support quality of service, and spectrum sensing and modulation classification. Dr. Popescu is a Senior Member of the IEEE and serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Communications Letters. He has also served in the technical program and organization committees for numerous IEEE conferences. Dr. Popescu advised many graduated students on their doctoral dissertations and Master theses and has co-authored numerous papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings.
