ELC Tuition & Fees


Estimate of Expenses for an Academic Year

Required expenses for one nine-month academic year, which includes two 15-week semesters are:

Tuition & Fees* $10,000
Living & Personal** $10,800
Health Insurance*** $2,800

*Tuition for one 15-week semester is $4,400. All new full-time students will be charged a new student fee of $125 upon arriving at the ELC.

**Living and personal expenses may vary.

***The cost of health insurance may vary from $1,400 to $2,000 (subject to change).

Living Expenses: Living expenses for the summer and deposits on apartments, etc. are not included in the above totals. Expenses for accompanying spouse and children are not included in the above totals. All estimates are subject to change.

Funding: At this time, there are no scholarships, grants, or loans available for international students studying at the English Language Center.

On-Campus Housing: On-campus housing is optional from mid-May to mid-August. At other times of the year, on-campus housing is usually not available.

*ODU health insurance plan is required for all English Language Center students who are full time and on an F-1 or J-1 visa. The cost of insurance may vary from $1,400 to $2,000 (subject to change).

**This price is for the first seven weeks of the semester. It will need to be renewed in March for the remainder of the Spring semester.

*The SPEAK Test fee is paid by departments. Students do not need to pay to take this assessment.

**You will be charged the late fee if you are not registered before 4:00 p.m. the Friday before classes begin. This does not apply to new students entering the country after classes have begun.



Payment Procedures

  • Students register and pay for classes using the online registration system (MonarchCE).
  • Payment is accepted by check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, or traveler's check in US dollars and written in English. Checks should be made payable to Old Dominion University.

Refund Policy

Tuition is due in full on Monday of the first week of classes.

The ELC adheres to the university's Drop/Add and Tuition Refund Deadlines. Refund checks are available four to six weeks after the request date.

For the Spring 2022 semester, the ELC Refund Deadlines are listed below:

  • January 18: No Finanical Penalty 100% Refund
  • January 25: One Half Financial Penalty 50% Refund
