GIS Computing Labs
Faculty and students in need of state-of-the-art geospatial computing resources have several options, whether working on-campus or remotely.
Spatial Analysis Instructional Laboratory (SAIL)
Monarch Hall, Room 2115
This 25-student instructional laboratory is dedicated to the instruction of GIS and related courses and includes 26 high performance desktops with dual monitors, a high capacity color laser printer, a large-format HP DesignJet plotter, and a ceiling mounted projector.
Monarch Virtual Environment (MOVE)
The Monarch Virtual Environment (MOVE) provides browser-based access to virtual GIS workstations that have the same software configuration as desktops in the aforementioned GIS labs. GIS on the MOVE may be accessed on any client machine from any location with an internet connection and a compatible web browser.
GIS Software
Esri ArcGIS
ODU maintains site licenses for the complete Esri GIS software suite. In addition to the GIS Computing Labs, this software is also available for ODU faculty, staff and students on ODU-owned and personal machines (with limitations). ERDAS Imagine
Hexagon ERDAS Imagine advanced image processing software is only available in the GIS Computing Labs (SAIL and MOVE)
ODU ArcGIS Online
ODU maintains an ArcGIS Online organizational account for web-based GIS data visualization and analysis. All ODU faculty, staff and students can access this web-based GIS at https://odu-gis.maps.arcgis.com.
GIS Data
Open Data Portal
This is the platform for exploring and downloading ODU Campus-centric GIS data, discovering and building apps, and engaging others to solve important issues. You can analyze and combine datasets using maps, as well as develop new web and mobile applications.
