Department of History Graduate ProgramScholarships & Funding

Scholarships & Funding

Many graduate students in the M.A. program in History receive at least some financial assistance. Types of financial assistance offered include:

Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs)
Students receive a stipend for assisting faculty members in administering and developing undergraduate courses. GTAs are valuable professional development opportunities and often help students discern future research and career decisions.

Tuition Remission
Some qualified GTAs also receive tuition remission, which subsidizes some or all of the cost of tuition.

Harriet W. ('69) and Burl Fisher Endowed Scholarship in History
Extremely well-qualified graduate students may receive scholarship funding to support educational needs. This scholarship is awarded to graduate students who have already completed at least one semester of full-time study.

Conference & Research Travel Funding
Funding for conference and research travel is available to qualified students engaged in promising historical research.

The Giandoni Graduate Research Award
The department offers funding for advanced graduate students in the M.A. program to progress on the research and writing of a M.A. thesis in collaboration with a faculty member. Funding may be used for travel expenses, database access, photocopying costs, and other research-related expenditures.

Students who apply for entrance to the degree program by February 15 are automatically considered for Graduate Teaching Assistantships, Tuition Remission, and the Fisher Endowed Scholarship in History.
