Non-probationary classified employees have the right to use the formal grievance procedure to resolve complaints or disputes about employment at the University.
- A grievance must be initiated within 30 calendar days of the action being grieved.
- A formal grievance should be the last step taken in trying to resolve a complaint.
Most employee concerns and complaints can be resolved informally through communication between you and your supervisor. ODU HR Employee Relations offers Conflict Resolution assistance as a resource to employees and supervisors.
Other informal grievance channels available to you include using the reporting line in your department, the DHRM Advice Line, DHRM Conflict Coaching, and DHRM Mediation.
