12-Month Probationary Period for New* Classified Employees
Classified employees who begin either original employment or re-employment effective September 25, 2000 and after must serve a 12-month probationary period.
The Probationary Period can be extended for up to 18 months due to performance reasons, for periods of leave with or without pay including Military Leave Without Pay or VSDP (Virginia Sickness, and Disability Program) short-term disability leave for more than 14 consecutive calendar days.
*New can refer to newly hired or newly re-hired.
