Kizzy Powell-Jones

Kizzy Powell-Jones is a wife, mother, and future entrepreneur who has faced some setbacks in life. She admits that because of some bad decisions she had to pay tough consequences which she is not proud of. Through a determined mindset and a willingness to learn, she has obtained her CNA certificate.

She has a desire to reach for more and help others in the process. Mrs. Powell-Jones enrolled in the Dream Builders Entrepreneurs class at Old Dominion University Women's Business Center. This was made possible with a grant provided by the Virginia Career Works Norfolk Center.

While learning the basics to build a business plan and create a sustainable business, she elected to enroll in the Virginia Financial Success Network program as another way to plan for her future goals. Working one on one with the Financial Coach, Kizzy gained knowledge about how her personal credit is her business credit, file disputes on incorrect information listed on her credit report, create a budget that aligns with her personal and business plans, and prepare financially for her goal of being a business owner.

During a session with her Financial Coach she mentioned that she had difficulty creating a starter budget to get her business started. She and her Financial Coach spent the next hour and a half working on a plan that would sustain her business for a minimum of three months and beyond.

She was so excited by the results that she went to her bank and was able to obtain a loan to begin her business and still sustain her household without a stretch. Kizzy has since completed the Dream Builders class and is working on the documentation need to obtain her business license and other needed forms to open Kaye's Unity Home Care LLC.

Her business will focus on adult foster care. With the support of her husband, Kizzy has identified her purpose, and now is excited because she has a purpose and a plan. She thanks her training provided through grant funding by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and her knowledge gained through the guidance of her Financial Coach and the Virginia Financial Success Network Program.
