Jenny Caja, Plant Funds and Cost Accountant, is the Employee of the Month for April

Jenny Caja, a plant funds and cost accountant with the Office of Finance, is Old Dominion's Employee of the Month for April.

Caja has been employed by the University since 2000.

Caja is being recognized for taking initiative during the Rollins Hall renovations in 2014. When Rollins Hall was renovated, the original breakroom, which had a functional, working sink, was relocated and a sink was not provided in the new plans.

Caja requested a quote for the purchase and installation of a sink and management approved it. She then went to Home Depot and purchased the sink and brought it back to Rollins Hall to be installed by ODU Facilities personnel.

According to Caja's supervisor, Donna Bean, "Jenny is a caring, thoughtful and highly regarded professional team player within the Office of Finance. We appreciate her dedication and outstanding service, making our quality of life in Rollins better".

Bean added that Caja goes above and beyond to address any task presented to her.

"Jenny's initiative exemplifies extraordinary customer service to her co-workers and inspiring leadership by being proactive in resolving seemingly difficult circumstances," Bean said. "Her energy and enthusiasm to personally drive the process of this project is an example of her commitment to her ODU family in Rollins Hall and the ODU community."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award. Nominations remain active for six months from date of submission and nominators may submit additional documentation to support a nominee during the active six months.

The criteria used to nominate an employee include the following:
