Lee Entsminger received his B. S. (Magna cum Laude) in Geology in 1974, his M.S. in Geology from Florida State University in 1978 and was a Ph. D. Candidate in Geology, at the Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, with all coursework completed. His dissertation manuscript was held as confidential by another government and never released for the dissertation defense.
He has worked for 31 years with Mobil and the successor ExxonMobil as a geoscientist, manager and leader in the petroleum industry with a mix of technical, commercial and business assignments, both domestic and international. Presently, Lee is leader of a corporate team of executives and senior professionals formed to identify strategic, integrated opportunities that reports to the Chairman and Management Committee.
Lee has gained extensive business, commercial and technical experience and has applied leadership, strategic planning and execution of technical (scientific) and business plans. He has managed of a range of projects from small technical groups, to entire programs including country operations. These have involved technical evaluations of complex geologic settings including basin analysis, tectonics, depositional models (sedimentology and stratigraphy) and low temperature diagenesis. His research efforts on the early history of the Gulf of Mexico included chief scientist for a sampling program utilizing the ALVIN in 2086 meters of water at the base of the Florida Escarpment.
Mr. Entsminger has both international government relations experience and contacts with the US Government. He worked with the Departments of State, Energy, Commerce and Treasury in addressing issues from student visas for scholarship programs to US Sanctions. One of his major responsibilities was serving as the primary ExxonMobil contact with the Iraqi and Libyan governments as both countries reopened.
Lee is an experienced negotiator with multi-party, multi-cultural experience including Russia, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq and Libya and has lived and worked in several countries where he has gained multicultural knowledge and experience: Europe, North Africa, Former Soviet Union, Asia / Pacific.
Lee is Chair of the College of Sciences Advisory Board, and previously served on the Advisory Board of the National Center for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Adelaide, South Australia (very similar to the ODU Advisory Board), Member, AAPG Visiting Geoscientists Program; gives science and professional talks to Universities in other countries.
