ODU classified employees may be in one of two sick leave programs, depending on which option they selected upon hiring:
- the Traditional Accrual Sick Leave program (only if selected prior to 1999), or
- the Virginia Sickness & Disability Program (VSDP)
Only employees hired before January 1, 1999 who selected this program remain on it.
Under the Traditional Accrual Sick Leave system, employees earn sick leave at the end of each pay period, which can be used for themselves or for the care of their eligible family members.
All employees hired after January 1, 1999 and any who selected it are on the Virginia Sickness & Disability Program (VSDP).
Under the current Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP), employees are allotted a certain amount of sick leave and family/personal leave each year.
Both types of sick leave will allow employees to continue to receive full pay when they take time off from work. Please verify which program you are in, as the rules for using and accruing leave vary between the two programs.
