Commonwealth of Virginia DHRM Policy 2.35: Civility in the Workplace

This policy prohibits all forms of harassment in the workplace including harassment based on gender, marital status or pregnancy. Workplace harassment is any unwelcome verbal, written or physical conduct that:
 

  • either denigrates or shows hostility or aversion towards a person on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, gender, age, veteran status, disability, political affiliation, sexual orientation or genetic information
  • has the purpose or effect of creating intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment;
  • has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an employee's work performance;
  • or affects an employee's employment opportunities or compensation.

University Policy 6500: Civility in the Workplace

Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual favors, or verbal, written or physical conduct of a sexual nature by a manager, supervisor, co-workers or non-employee (third party).

The University's Committee on Sexual Harassment is chaired by the Director of Equity and EO/AA . The committee assists members of the University community who are the object of sexual harassment, or who are accused of violating the policy. It is the policy of Old Dominion University to provide students and employees with an environment for learning and working which is free of harassment and to assist victims of sexual harassment and those accused of violating the policy.
