The Thermo-Fluids Laboratory provides knowledge about various aspects of fluid and thermal measurement techniques. It has a variety of equipment making quantitative as well as qualitative measurements of fluid flow properties with an emphasis on the application of commonly used software such as LabView for data acquisition and analysis.
- Food and drinks are strictly prohibited.
- Safety glasses must be worn when instructed.
- No open-toed shoes, jewelry, or loose clothing may be worn inside the lab. Long hair must be tied into a bun and covered with a hair net if any machinery is operated.
- Please maintain a tidy workspace and clean the machines after use.
- Report any damaged equipment, leaks, or malfunctions to the lab coordinator.
- Students should not leave the experiment area or their group during an experiment without permission.
- Precautions must be taken to avoid the spilling of water or oil. Report any spillage to the instructor or graduate teaching assistant (GTA).
- Students are prohibited from leaving the laboratory after an experiment until all equipment and instrumentation involved is properly shut down, cleaned, and/or put away.
- Earplugs must be worn during the wind tunnel and Pitot-tube experiments. Earplugs will be provided at the beginning of these experiments.
- All injuries must be promptly reported to the Instructor or graduate teaching assistant (GTA).
- ODU Lab Safety Rules, MSDS forms, and Accident Report forms can be found in the laboratory documents
binder or online. - A First Aid Kit is located inside the lab. When needed, please utilize the kit and immediately contact lab coordinator Praveen Malali (pmala002@odu.edu).
- For serious injuries and emergencies, please call 911 or ODU Campus Police at 757-683-4000.
- To contact the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dept. call 757-683-6363.
- For questions on safety and training certifications, please contact Kelvin Colvin at 757-683-4592 or email at kcolvin@odu.edu.
