The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course. No faculty approval is needed to take a CLEP test. For more information on ODU CLEP scores and course equivalency, click here. Questions about CLEP scores should be directed to the Office of Admissions.
Note that individual institutions have different CLEP policies and equivalencies. Be sure to check with your home institution as to accepted tests/scores, and CLEP requirements.

The Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination is a comprehensive exam required for graduation in the ODU counseling master's program and is typically taken in the last or second to last semester of study. Requirements for the exam can be found online in the graduate program handbook.
This is a retake exam only for those students who completed the Dental Radiation Safety Certification through ODU's School of Continuing Education.
The DSST exams are similar to the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams: individuals are able to receive college credit by taking these advanced placement exams. Visit the Admissions website for the list of accepted DSST exams.

he University offers placement tests for French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. French, German, and Spanish tests are 100 multiple choice questions, and must be completed in 1 hour. The Japanese test includes a listening section (100 questions), a 1-page essay (both sections are allotted 1 hour total) and an interview with a faculty member from the Department of Foreign Language.

The HESI A2 Assessment Test is a requirement for all students applying to Old Dominion University's School of Nursing, as well as many other nursing programs. To align the requirements of other nursing programs locally and around the country, all sections of the exam are included in our HESI test. Note- two fees are needed to sit for the HESI exam, one to ODU for administering the test, and one to Evolve for the exam itself. Be sure to pay both fees before your test day.

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. There are several equivalent forms of the MAT administered in both computer-based and paper-and-pencil versions.
ACCUPLACER is the most powerful tool available to help colleges assess student readiness for introductory credit-bearing courses and make reliable placement decisions. ODU proctors Accuplacer exams from other institutions for a fee. Students must have a voucher from their home institution before making an appointment.

Please bring a smartphone with you on test day to pay for additional time if your exam goes over 1 hour. After the first hour we charge in 30 minute increments. It is the test takers responsibility to ensure any paperwork from your home institution is completed.
The Praxis® tests measure the academic skills and subject-specific content knowledge needed for teaching. The Praxis tests are taken by individuals entering the teaching profession as part of the certification process required by many states and professional licensing organizations. Note that all appointments are directly done through ETS, not the Credentialing Center. When making an appointment, you can select ODU as a testing site.
The ParaPro Assessment measures the skills and knowledge in reading, writing, and math on the part of prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. It also measures their ability to apply those skills and knowledge when assisting in classroom instruction. It was designed to satisfy the requirements of the federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act.
