Calling all students in grades K-12 and the entire Hampton Roads community, you are invited to come and celebrate our amazing planet! The 2025 Earth Day theme is: “Our Power, Our Planet!"

FREE STEM activities, include:

Interactive science demonstrations by ODU scientists from:

  • Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences
  • Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
  • Department of Biological Sciences
  • Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Learn about our planet from a different view in the Michael & Kimthanh Lê Digital Theater and Planetarium shows!

Registration closes when we reach capacity.

Introduction/Check-in at the New Chemistry Building:

  • 9:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Introduction to activities

Planetarium: 

30-minute Interactive planetarium shows.

Starting times: 

  • 10:00 a.m.
  • 11:00 a.m.
  • 12:00 p.m. 

Science Activity Stations (9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) 

  • ODU interactive science demonstrations outside the new chemistry building
  • Learn about our oceans & coastal wildlife!
  • Why plastics are bad?
  • Chesapeake Bay Touch Tank
  • Ocean Acidification
  • Core dissection
  • Biodiesel
  • Fossil dig
  • Water drone Explore a research vessel boat and much more!
  • Meet current ODU faculty and students to learn about their research and how it impacts you.
  • Tour the new chemistry building and see the new educational and lab spaces.
  • Meet local scientists and engineers from local community organizations such as the Institute for Coastal Adaptation and Resilience (ICAR) and more!

Free parking is available for the event in the Elkhorn Ave & 43rd Street Garage.
