Reign in Science Day is designed to get students excited about the sciences at Old Dominion University! All Hampton Roads students in grades 1st to 12th will dive into an exciting day filled with S.T.E.M.-based activities, including experiments, facility tours and more.

Date: Saturday, September 28, 2024 | Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Reign In Chemistry & Science Day

Come and visit the College of Sciences at Old Dominion University. Meet ODU faculty and students in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Department of Physics, Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences. Do hands-on STEM activities, see science demonstrations, a planetarium show, and take part in science-related activities with our community and other university partners at this exciting event.  Bring your own shirt to tie-dye or limited supply available for purchase. Registration is closed as we have reached capacity.

Safety is our top goal for this event.  All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Also, mask-wearing is optional for those who plan to attend.

Event Schedule

Introduction/Check-in at the New Chemistry Building:

  • 10-10:10 a.m. Introduction to activities

Planetarium:

20-minute Interactive planetarium shows.

Starting times: 10 a.m., 10:30am, 11 a.m., 11:30am, 12 p.m., 12:30pm, 1 p.m.

Science Activity Stations (10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.):

  • ODU interactive science demonstrations outside the new chemistry building
  • Learn the chemistry behind tie-dying and bring a shirt to tie-dye!
  • Learn about the physics of our universe!
  • Learn about our oceans & coastal wildlife!
  • Meet current ODU undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty to learn about their research.
  • Tour the new chemistry building and see the new educational and lab spaces.
  • Learn about the Chemistry of the Wild with First Landing State Park.
  • Meet local scientists and engineers from local community organizations.

Free parking is available for the event in the Elkhorn Ave & 43rd Street Garage.
