F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music: Old Dominion University Symphony OrchestraYoung Artists Competition

Every year, ODU instrumental and voice students compete to perform with the ODU Symphony Orchestra or ODU Wind Ensemble. Up to three musicians are chosen and featured as soloists in concert with one of these ensembles.

Since 2010, composers have also been invited to compete for performance consideration. They have the opportunity to submit original works for string orchestra, symphonic orchestra, or wind ensemble.

Participants in the competition first perform in a Preliminary Round, one for each area of the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music. Finalists are then invited to perform in the Young Artist Competition in November in a formal evening recital that is open to the public.
