I like to lead off these pages with some sort of copy- it makes the page look more cohesive, and gives Google something near the top of the page to scan for SEO. Engineering used to have their dean's message here, but that's just one option. Basically, this is just a brief introduction of the department, maybe 4 or 5 sentences.

Associate Professor Erin Purcell teaches and does research at Old Dominion University's Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Purcell's area of research focuses on signal transduction pathways in Clostridoides difficile (C. difficile) which is a human pathogen that causes damage to the colon and can be fatal.
